Question time!
Hello guys... I want to take this post as a chance for you to ask any questions you like about University life and the University of Bolton. Just comment on this post and I will be answering... ...get asking! Thanks Tom.
Hey! :) I've just noticed that you're on the course that i have applied for ^^ How much do you enjoy it? Is the sfx course as fabulous as it seemed at the open day? :) ~I love your little sculpts btw. Thanks, Kitty x
Hello Kitty, nice to meet you, and thank you for asking me some questions!
I love the SFX course at Bolton and in my first year I have learnt the foundations and processes within the SFX industry - relevant bits and bobs you will need to know for second and third year! In my first year I have studied the following modules:
Introduction to Physical Processes: An introduction to processes within the physical side of FX including life casting - messy, but really fun stuff!
Scholarship: A module to look at what area within the SFX industry you want to go in and you also get the chance to create your own short film as a group - this was ours! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibfoNi4O6z8
Introduction to 3DCG: A VFX introductory course that lets you digitally model anything of your choice.
Introduction to Visual Effects: Designing your own title sequence using your own video footage.
Introduction to CGI for Film and TV: Digitally modelling an object of your choice and creating your own short animation.
Introduction to 3D Model Making: Modelling or creating your own choice of material based on a subject - for us, ours was based on the game Borderlands 2.
All modules were highly interesting and I loved doing them! In the first year you have to do both the SFX, physical/makeup side, and the VFX, digital modelling and using industry computer software side, but for both your second and third year you can choose one or the other. As you can probably tell, I'm more of a physical student so will be choosing the SFX side of the course when I'm back in September. The course gives you the relevant informatuion you need to become part of the SFX industry and I cannot wait to carry on in September!
Thank you for your comment about my sculpts, I'll be posting a few images and videos within the next few days of my final submission work for this semester - so keep a look out! Once again, thank you for your questions, I hope I've answered them with the relevant information and please, don't hesitate if you want to ask more - I like to be of help!
Nice to meet you too! Your video made my day :') ha. The course sounds great! I definitely think that i have made the right choice applying, i'm just awaiting a response on Ucas now (applied late). I'm more physical than digital, i'm on a makeup course at the moment but i want to get into full character design and animatronics :) I'l enjoy the 3d modelling, i love playing around with Zbrush & Maya when i get the chance so hopefully i'l have a head start, it's just using editing softwares like Premier pro that put me off the digital side D; Thanks for your reply & i can't wait to see more of your work! Kitty ^^ x
