3D Model Making

Hello guys

Just wanted to post about the work I've been doing at the minute.

For one of my modules we are looking at 3D Model Making. We have to incorporate different methods and techniques to make our work achieve a high standard. This module is based around the game Borderlands 2 and we have to choose a component from the game, whether it be a creature, character or prop and then make it.
I have chosen to design the four elemental plants within the game. The following series of images show some of my test sculpts.

I have used Chevant clay for these sculpts.

I will post further about this module in weeks to come to show my progress.

Bolton and it's surrounding areas...

Hello guys...

As asked, I have created a post about Bolton itself and the surrounding areas.

Bolton is such a friendly town, close to both cities Manchester and Liverpool and puts entertainment and shopping right at your doorstep.

There are plenty of bars/clubs/restaurants/cafe's for everyone's tastes and regular free live music events and student nights are on offer at many venues. There are two indoor shopping malls in Bolton, Crompton place featuring Primark and Boots and the Marketplace Shopping Centre featuring Topman, River Island and Zara (possibly my three favourite!). Then there is the rest of the town surrounding the central Town Hall where you can find Marks and Spencer's, Wilko's and all your bargain madness shops! (Great thing for a student!)
Also, near to the town hall, is the Museum, Library and Octagon Theatre. The Octagon Theatre holds a variety and range of performances suited for all members of the community and the Museum is a great place to go for a look around. The Museum hosts a variety of exhibitions and also has a mini aquarium inside.
Bolton has excellent motorway and rail links to major cities. The Lake District, West Pennine Moors and the Yorkshire Dales are within easy reach, and the bright lights of Blackpool are only an hour away! Bolton train station is situated just a few minutes walk from the town centre!
The region is particularly good for watching live sport, with the excellent Reebok Stadium, home to the Bolton Wanderers football team. Bolton Arena is the Regional Tennis Centre and hosts national tennis events. International cricket is in nearby Manchester, while for rugby league supporters, Wigan is just up the road.

Friday Night Out!

Hey guys!

Hope you're all okay...

Went out again last night in Bolton. Friday nights are pretty cheap too!

Firstly, we started at the UBSU Loft Bar - that's the universities bar itself. They were holding a UV party and they provided all the UV paint and pens for you to draw on one another - I occasionally had a splat here and there on my face! This event was free entry and there were a variety of drinks offers on. The Loft Bar is a great place to spend a couple of hours with friends before you head into town - it's only 10 minutes for you then to stagger into town! It was all a pleasing an environment, just a shame that there weren't more people. In your time at University, I do recommend using the Loft Bar for the entertainment and events they hold.

We then moved onto town - J2! There are two wristbands you can purchase on a Friday night at J2 - a £6 one and a £10 one. The £6 one entitles you to entry and four drinks whereas the £10 wristband entitles you to entry, six drinks, a shot, free cloakroom and half price food at the 'Take-Out'. All floors in J2 were open!

The floors are -

Level 1 + 2: Commercial/R'n'B/Chart
Level 4: Party floor! (The best in my eyes!:)
The Attic: Dance/Clubland/Trance

All in all it was a brilliant night and we had plenty of fun!

The morning after...

Hey guys!

Hope you're all okay.

Had a really good night out last night in Bolton. Spent £15 the whole night - so really cheap on a student night!

We started in J2, bought our wristbands for £6 which included free entry and four drinks and the music and atmosphere was great - some cheesy! some rock! some R'n'B!
We then moved to McCauleys, where it was £1 drinks! McCauleys play a variety of music from Michael Jackson to Nirvana and Tenacious D.

I definitely recommend going out on a Wednesday evening if you don't have to be up early for University on a Thursday!

Any questions as regarding the nightlife in Bolton, then don't hesitate to ask!

Will post again soon!

Tom.

Hello!

Hey guys, just thought I'd give you all an introduction into who I am and why I am doing this blog.

My name is Tom Spencer and I am a student at the University of Bolton studying Special Effects for Film and TV. So far, I love it. I am in my first year and in my second trimester, so I am still learning the introductory information I need to complete the course and become my dream job of being a Special Effects Prosthetics and Make-up artist - all the blood and gory stuff! The course I do is split into two areas: Special Effects and Visual Effects, the SFX route more model making and hands on work, whereas the visual route is more involved with looking at Computer Generated Imagery. I hope to come out with a first class degree from the BDes SFX route of the course and gain the relevant information I need to go and produce fantastic and out of this world work.

I was chosen by the University of Bolton to be awarded the Vice Chancellor's Scholarship award due to my hardworking demeanor and strong work ethic. This scholarship award is awarded to the most gifted and talented students who apply for an undergraduate degree course at Bolton University. This means I become a student representative and aid with open days and tours around the University for up and coming students who are thinking of furthering their education at Bolton so that they get a taste of what University life is like.

I will be updating this blog weekly, if not more, so that all you readers can see the progress in my studies and what a student's life consists of!

Finally, if you have any questions you may want to ask me, please leave a comment on this blog page and I will be more than happy to help.

Thank you for reading and keep a look out for my next post!

Tom
